Over the years, I’ve caught countless fish using the Strike King Wake Shad—a bait I kept secret for a long time. For a while, it was discontinued, but now it’s back and better than ever.
What sets this bait apart from other wake baits is its versatility. You can fish it in a variety of ways. Most notably, you can fish it fast, allowing it to stay right on the surface.
Burning it across the top is one effective technique, but you can also stop and start it, twitch it, kill it, or fish it slowly for that classic wake bait action.
The Strike King Wake Shad now comes in an array of fantastic, fish-catching colors, making it even more irresistible. I prefer throwing it on a composite cranking rod because the strikes this bait provokes are explosive.
It’s ideal for fishing over shallow cover like flooded grass, bushes, and around boat docks. It also excels off points when fish are schooling on shad.
I’ve experienced incredible success with this bait on Highland reservoirs like Table Rock Lake and Bull Shoals. My setup typically includes a 7′ composite cranking rod, a 17-pound Bass Pro Shops XPS fluorocarbon line, and a high-speed reel.
Whether I’m burning it over points or cover, or fishing it slow, this bait consistently pulls fish to the surface and catches them.
The Strike King Wake Shad is dynamite for any angler looking to up their game with a reliable, versatile wake bait. Give it a try—you won’t be disappointed.
