Braid and Fluorocarbon for Most Uses
The Best fishing line: Most of what I use is braid and fluorocarbon. The only thing that I use mono for is a handful of topwater baits because the mono still kind of floats. It’s pretty buoyant compared to fluorocarbon, which sinks. So, if you’re throwing a small finesse popper like a KVD Splash, I’ve got to throw it on monofilament. Head over to Bass Pro Shops to get the top-quality fishing tools I rely on.
 Monofilament for Topwater Baits
You could use braid as your main line and use a monofilament leader; that works well, but I typically like to use straight mono there. Everything else, you know, crankbaits, throwing in a spinnerbait, bladed jigs like a Thunder Cricket, I like straight fluorocarbon.
Braid in Heavy Cover
When I’m going to throw braid, it’s in the heaviest cover. You know, when you’re throwing a swim jig in thick cover, when you’re flipping super heavy cover, if you’re throwing a buzzbait or topwater, you can get away with braid, like a Sexy Dog, things like that. And you might want to use a short leader with it.
Spinning Equipment with Braid and Fluorocarbon Leader
On all my spinning equipment now, I have switched to 95% braid as my main line with a fluorocarbon leader tied with an FG knot. You know, just use eight or 10, 15 feet of fluorocarbon on the end of it. It just comes off the spinning reel so well; it really helps things immensely.
