Fishing During the Summer: Windows of Opportunity
As the water warms up in the summer, there are clear windows of opportunity for catching fish. Without a doubt, the first thing in the morning and late in the evening are prime feeding times. During these periods, fish tend to move up to shallow areas, especially near deeper water, giving anglers a chance to catch them.
Early Morning and Late Evening: Prime Feeding Time
In the early morning, fish are often more active and can be caught using topwater lures or buzz baits. These shallow-water conditions are ideal for fishing. However, as the sun rises and temperatures increase, this bite tends to disappear. The fish begin to move out into deeper water as the day heats up.
The Effect of Power Generation on Fish Movement
As the water warms up and temperatures rise, many lakes start generating power. This power generation creates current in reservoirs, and this current, in turn, pulls bass towards points where the water is flowing. These fish will wait in ambush for pods of shad or baitfish that drift down with the current, making these spots excellent for fishing.
Shifting to Deeper Waters as the Day Warms Up
In the early hours, shallow water fishing with topwater baits is highly effective, but as the day progresses and it gets warmer, deeper ledges become more favorable. Crankbaits are a great option for fishing in these deeper areas, where the fish are more oriented towards the current on the main lake.
