Rod Specifications

The main swim jig outfit I use is centered around a GC7 rod. This is a 7-foot 4-inch heavy action rod. It has a little bit of a good tip, which helps me with casting.

Line and Reel Details

I’ve paired this rod with 50 lb Strike King tour grade braid. This braid is reliable and offers significant strength. The reel I use is the Hyperm MAG. The Hyperm MAG is incredibly smooth and casts excellently. It also performs well when I need to skip baits, which is crucial for my fishing style.

Skipping and Casting

If I’m focused on skipping a lot, the PRP baitcaster U is truly amazing for that purpose. This setup allows for long casts and efficient fishing with a swim jig in open waters.

Reel Deals and Recommendations

Currently, there’s a great deal on some of my favorite Lew’s reels at Bass Pro Shops. The Pro SP, BB1 Pro, and Custom Light Series are all 20% off. While the new Hyperm Mags aren’t on sale yet, they are phenomenal reels worth considering.

Benefits of Braid

For me, braid is the equalizer. It has no stretch, and even at 50 lb, it maintains a small diameter. This allows me to fish effectively in the heaviest cover while ensuring excellent performance.
